Toni Sant
I
subscribed to the WDL email list a few months ago and became really interested in remaining on the list after it was announced that a blog would supplement the list.
I've been wanting to post an intro on the blog for several weeks but I never seem to find enough time to do whatever I want whenever I want. I work as a Lecturer in Performance and Creative Technologies at the University of Hull's Scarborough Campus but I live in New York City. If I were to find a reason rather than an excuse for taking so long to post on this blog, I'd mention attending an academic conference without easy Internet access and full participation in the weeks before/after the start of an academic year.
The main reason I joined the WDL list was because I wanted to see what other people are thinking, saying, and doing in terms of writing in digital environments. This summer I started working on a hypertext project, which is essentially a non-linear autobiography. The main text of this work is in Maltese, my native language. However, I plan to share previews of this hypertext with the list and this blog when it has grown enough to come online. The work may eventually be translated into other languages.
My training is in Broadcasting and Performance Studies. My doctoral research was mostly about the Internet as an alternative broadcasting medium. However, I am also very interested in something called performative writing; a strange beast that is equally related to both performance theory and language theory. I don't consider myself an expert on performative writing. I specialize in creative uses of the Internet, especially within marginalized communities. If you've ever been to Malta and lived there for more than a week you can probably understand why. If you have no idea what I'm on about, I suggest you read this and/or this.
If you're really curious to know more about me, or simply have a lot of free time on your hands, just check out my website -- it contains a blog and I do some podcasting in Maltese too.
A more formal bio is available on the Maltese Wiki...there's no English translation, just yet.
