frappr! map

I've created a Frappr map (part of Google maps I believe) for Writing and the Digital Life bloggers, blog readers, list writers, and list readers.  If you click on this link (or the tag in the side-bar of the blog) you'll be able to see the location of list/blog participants and also have the chance to add a bio and photo of yourself.  At first, the Frappr map will be small, but with time I'm sure it will be populated.

NB Although the map is (now) centred on the UK it is easy to reposition the map to view other areas.

Go on, go on, add yourself.

Writely - the Web Word Processor

Logobarlogo
Has anyone tried this? It seems to be getting lots of good reviews. It's like a wiki, but not a wiki, apparently... http://www.writely.com/

Update on this post from October:

I've been experimenting with it for a couple of weeks and have been very impressed. It's only in beta and not fully functional yet, but looks very promising. Presumably there are other applications that do similar things and I'd be interested to hear about them.

_Del.icio.us way to talk_ Times Higher Education Supplement, 28 October 2005

My recent article, reproduced here by arrangement with the THES. Responses welcome.

To become transliterate, publishers need to start a dialogue with e-learners, Sue Thomas says

Transliteracy. It's another of those new usages for old concepts. It was originally applied to the mapping of one system of writing on to another, and the idea is now being extended to the digital realm. Today it refers to literacy across several media, which means, perhaps, that the more media you can use fluently, the more transliterate you are. How will that affect those of us who write, teach and publish? Can an understanding of transliteracy help dispel those rising levels of anxiety about the world of the web that, to paraphrase Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is "so new that some things still lack names"?

New Blog: Sporkworld the Community

Sporkworld.org is launching a new site, Sporkworld: The Community at www.sporkworld.org//index.php, to accompany the main Sporkworld site at www.sporkworld.org  Please come visit the site, add your comments to the articles, vote in the current poll (about poetry), and submit links for the links page.

The new site will feature articles, reviews, and commentary on the major themes addressed in the web works on Sporkworld.  There will also be regular contests and opportunities to participate in collaborative projects to be published on Sporkworld.  More interactive features will be added as the site matures.  For example news feeds and discussion fora are anticipated, if there is enough user interest.

Sporkworld: The Community eagerly seeks article submissions.
